The Beginning
Established in 2014 – I’ve had the honour of helping hundreds of girls find beautiful dresses over the years..
14 & Sixpence’s name originates from combining the year of opening (2014), the ‘Something Old, Something New’ bridal poem & the desire for something quirky & memorable. In March 2023 I relocated from Taunton to Ilminster & to a countryside barn.
The next chapter
It’s important that a boutique offers space to be able to accommodate a lovely selection of dresses, as well as the most stunning private setting to create an experience – memories of one of the most special dresses a girl will ever wear. From April 2026, I took an exciting new direction to focus on Prom dresses only in a new pretty location at Jordans Courtyard. The bridal side of the business has been sold & is remaining at Ashwell Farm & run by new Owner Molly, who I know has the same dedication, passion & love to take the business on it’s next step of the journey.

I’m passionate about ensuring everything is perfect for your red carpet event. It’s lovely to obviously ‘play with dresses all day’, but it’s so much more than that. My belief is that you visit 14 & Sixpence for the experience, the beautiful setting, the fact we offer beautiful quality dresses…. & I’m always so grateful for the positive reviews & awards that second that.

Prom girls visit year around to secure the best selection & come from schools all over Somerset, Cornwall, Devon & Dorset, but especially Taunton, Bridgwater, Chard, Crewkerne, Yeovil, Street, Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol & Exeter.

FAQs
Q. When do I need to start looking for my prom dress?
A. Prom dresses are available from stock immediately, but many can also be available to order other sizes/colours with delivery at average 2-12 weeks. Please ensure you allow enough time for browsing, delivery & alterations, & to ensure the best selection – our ‘PROMise’ means there’s only one dress in each style going to each school.
Q. Do I need an appointment?
A. We want you to have the ultimate experience – so appointments are always required & can be booked online. Sometimes there may be availability last minute or due to a cancellation – so please contact us to check!.
Prom dress appointments are for one hour, for ONE GIRL at a time & include time for us to ‘get to know you’ as well as for you to try on dresses. We invite you to bring 2-3 ‘Star Guests’ – someone closest to you, those opinions that REALLY matter – those that know you best – your Mum or closest friend or family. Current feedback is that girls are enjoying the experience more by keeping things intimate & relaxed, not too many overwhelming opinions, & making it fun & a memory which starts the journey you will remember forever. PLEASE NOTE: From January 2026, Charges for prom appointments will restart. Please see the prom page for the latest information. This fee is credited against your dress purchase.
Q. How do I book an appointment?
A. You can book here or via the banner at the top of our website for all appointments required – initial appointment as well as viewings, payments & collections. Our weekends especially can be booked up several weeks in advance, so please ensure you book asap!
Q. What do I need to bring for my appointment?
A. If you have any ideas or pictures of what you like (or really don’t) – please bring these, as well as an ‘open mind’ to try styles that you may not have thought of!
We welcome well behaved children (if they are your ‘Star Guests’) we respectfully remind that they are sat with your party at all times – they & our dresses are very precious!
